"Our Record" No. 101 in 1932 records that:
"At the end of last term we lost 3 members of our form but the greatest loss of all was the leading light, Monty Curd, who it is reputed, has a wide and extensive knowledge of the birdlife of Shoreham We extend a hearty wish of good luck and a most successful career."

Destroyer (formerly U.S.S. Satterlee) sunk on January 31st 1942 in the North Atlantic whilst escorting Canadian Troop Convoy NA2. The ship was sunk by U82 off Nova Scotia, all 138 crewmembers perished.
U82 was subsequently depth-charged by H.M.S. Rochester and H.M.S. Tamarisk on the 6th of February 1942. All 45 crewmembers were lost.
William Curd died 31st January 1942 age 26.
