Joseph Assenheim
31 Stoney Lane
City of London
Gravel Lane, City of London
C.W.G.C. has no trace of his grave. The only Assenheim grave recorded is for Lawrence who died before Phillip enlisted.
In 2002 I contacted a Mrs Assenheim from the Brighton directory, she explained that she had married into the Assenheim family many years earlier and could not be of any help. However, she did recall being told that during the 1st World War the family had changed their name to Ashley to avoid any German connection.
C.W.G.C. records do show the grave of:
Phillip Joseph Ashley
Grave Reference: V111, 1, 8.

Whilst we cannot be sure this is the same person there is most certainly a very strong possibility.
